Scratchboard and watercolor
The swirling circles are most maternal, inclusive of all creation. There is something about a mother's—or even God's—ferocious love for his child that touched my heart as I began scratching away into the solid black sheet of inked board. Peeling away at the layers of what lay beyond in the depths of this ocean of impenetrable blackness, perhaps the subconscious.
The image of mother and child, birth giving life, water, fish, sky, leaves, moon and stars, a flock of birds heading north, light into the darkness...screaming to be set free, free from the prison of denying the call to act and acknowledge...under the fear of "I'll paint this one day."
